Bobby Lashley, an AEW wrestler, recently addressed the backlash he faced due to a proposed storyline feud with GUNTHER in WWE while being a guest on the podcast “The Lame Guys”. Previously, Lashley had hinted at a storyline feud with GUNTHER suggesting a possible agitation of “racial tension” and walking a thin line, which faced substantial criticism from viewers following his comments during the interview.
He further discussed his desire for the conclusion of his partnership with the Street Profits, hoping to boost the careers of both Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins.
In his podcast interview, Lashley addressed a number of issues.
Speaking about the criticism for his comments on his GUNTHER idea, Lashley explained, “I perhaps stirred up some trouble because a few people perceived my statements as trying to incite a racial argument. But let me clarify, that wasn’t my intention. We often notice interesting formations in wrestling groups. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but simply the way these groups are assembled. I thought it would be compelling to see the interaction of teams collaborating.”
On the topic of online drama, Lashley was particularly dismissive of those who stoke quarrels for clickbait. “Current societal structures have resulted in a lot of conflict between groups, but I must affirm that I don’t condone racism in any form. It’s quite unfortunate that there are blogs run by companies or individuals that pick out information from interviews to generate clickbait and instigate online drama. I request such people to stay away. I’m not one to spread such hate.”
Lashley also spoke about his confidence and his reaction to the way some individuals misconstrued his comments. “I know what I am capable of, and I am very confident in my skills. I don’t spread hate or invite drama. Some people were supportive of my idea while others posted negative comments about me. That was surprising.”
As for his interaction with Street Profits in AEW, Lashley had laid out an extensive plan with them before his departure from WWE. “I had planned to extend my career with WWE for a few more years before retiring. I intended for either Dawkins or Montez to betray me, leading to a feud and eventually both of them overcoming me. All of them are immensely talented, and my objective was to enhance their professional stature.” Lashley also shared that he had planned feuds with other talents and had no ego about going out in the right way, albeit things didn’t go as planned.
