During a recent appearance on “The Five Count” podcast, WWE wrestler Montez Ford opened up about the ways his military experience shaped his wrestling career.

Here are the major takeaways from the podcast:

Regarding the impact of his military past on his WWE journey:“I believe that many of the qualities I acquired during my military service, I have applied them in WWE. It’s crucial to be disciplined, particularly when it involves maintaining and presenting your body in a specific manner all year long. You have to consistently say no to certain foods, drinks, and habits. So, I would definitely assert that the discipline is still present and always will be. The precision, the proactive nature, the ability to recognize when I’m slacking or need to put extra focus on something. All of those elements are present. Lots of the qualities I learned in the military has assisted me because with the military, you’re often away from home. It’s quite similar in that regard.”

On how the military training in patience helped him in WWE:“One thing I would say without becoming excessively verbose is that my military service certainly contributed to my transition to the WWE. There’s a lot of overlap. Many scenarios require you to get ready quickly and then wait, as they say. You have to plan ahead, exercise strict discipline, and have lots of patience. Just as the military demands a lot of patience, the WWE requires the same. So, I would confidently say there are many overlapping characteristics. My military background and athletic history have both been absolutely instrumental in my transition into WWE. Having these two backgrounds has allowed me to find success in this field.”
