In a recent episode of the “Gabby AF” podcast, Jackie Redmond, a WWE broadcaster, shared the background story of The Rock’s surprising intervention during her backstage interview with Triple H. This took place at the WrestleMania 40 Kickoff event organized in Las Vegas earlier this year.
Redmond conceded that she had no inkling of the fact that The Rock would be making an unexpected entrance into the segment.
Here are a few notable points from the podcast:
Discussing her interview with Triple H during the Kickoff show, Redmond said, “At the Las Vegas hosted WrestleMania kickoff last year, when the show was about halfway through, my supervisor came up to me and suggested ‘I think you’ll be interviewing Hunter, also known as Paul towards the end, after everything wraps up. He’ll probably come out, answer a few quick questions about how everything went.’ I responded affirmatively. He continued, ‘try to give a conclusive touch to the event, get his insights.’”
Detailing her unawareness of The Rock’s planned interruption, she shared, ‘This was our inaugural press kickoff event, accompanied by the crowd and everything. I thought it seemed pretty straightforward and didn’t anticipate any surprises. The truth is I had absolutely no foreknowledge that The Rock was slated to barge into the said interview. I was completely focused on interviewing Hunter. Some incidents occurred towards the end of the press event which I did ask Hunter about. But I couldn’t have imagined what was to come next. If you watch the clip, everyone is surprised at how well I ‘sold’ the moment.’”
Speaking about her spontaneous reaction, she stated, “I did not ‘sell’ anything. That is not the case. I was reacting on the spot to The Rock using expletives on our show, wondering ‘What in the world is happening right now?’ It was an authentic, raw reaction at the moment. Some people might find it hard to believe, but that’s the truth.”
