In a recent visit to Rob Van Dam’s “1 Of A Kind” podcast, wrestling icon Bret Hart opened up about the in-ring prowess of Leo Burke.
Here are some podcast excerpts:
Discussing his learning journey with Leo Burke and Dynamite Kid, Bret Hart revealed, “From Dynamite and Leo collectively, I gained a substantial amount of wrestling knowledge. My personal style and how my career surged in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) are, to a great extent, due to these two gentlemen. I adapted much of Dynamite’s unique ideas and incorporated his psychological approach into my wrestling. English wrestlers tend to have a theatrical touch to their wrestling, which sets them apart.”
When asked about Ric Flair, Bret shared his thoughts candidly. “Ric Flair imparted a lot to wrestling, and I respect him, but I wouldn’t place him on the same pedestal as Leo Burke. I’d categorize Ric as a stellar worker of his era. Nonetheless, let me provide a different perspective. I recall conversing with the likes of Harley Race, Dory Funk, and Terry Funk about Leo Burke. In their eyes, He was legendary, always praised for his exceptional skills. Ric Flair was the only one, as far as I remember, that seemed to have an underwhelmed opinion about Burke. I believe it has more to do with the way he was utilized. Ric maybe didn’t care much since he was there to rake in the earnings. But differingly, Leo never lamented about the way he was treated. Hence, I often feel that someone like Ric Flair failed to acknowledge Burke’s greatness,” Hart explained.
