Welcome to a fresh edition of eWrestlingNews Query of the Day!
Although we don’t yet know the details of tonight’s WWE SmackDown episode and can’t divulge any spoilers for next week’s Monday Night Raw, the team lineup for WarGames at this year’s Survivor Series is still uncertain. Yet, it appears that one team might consist of Roman Reigns, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Sami Zayn, and Seth Rollins facing Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Bronson Reed.
Today’s burning question is, “Do you believe that this is the best team selection, or would you prefer the traditional 4 versus 4, or maybe a different approach?”
We are eagerly waiting to hear your responses in the comments section below.
My take on this…
Frankly speaking, I find the concept of a fifth member superfluous. If it was deemed necessary to include a fifth member on each team, there could have been so many different and appealing ways. The thing is, a fifth member isn’t even required in the first place.
A 4-person team has successfully carried out WarGames matches in the past. It has happened without disrupting the quality or gimmick of the game like it would in a 15-entry Royal Rumble or a 3-person Elimination Chamber. WarGames with 4 people works smoothly, initiating with 1-on-1, New Bloodline gets the advantage (it always works better with heels first), then it goes face 2, heel 3, face 3, heel 4, face 4, and voila!
However, if they insisted on a fifth member, what about Hikuleo? Where is The Rock? The proposal that this should be Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens does not make sense. Why should Owens feud with Cody because of resentment towards The Bloodline, and then be a part of their team? Cody could have been the fifth member on the face team, with Hikuleo making a debut in the meantime to be their fifth. Owens could have betrayed Cody, or maybe The Rock could have intervened. Despite that, it would have been much better to see a four-member team.
Presuming Rollins and Reed are included in the match, why should Rollins assist Roman? What’s in it for him? And why should Reed support The Bloodline? What’s his gain?
The reasons really need to go beyond just hatred between the two. If the only reason they’re in the match is to fight, then why should they be concerned about the other participants in the fight? Logic would dictate that Seth shouldn’t be excited to take on Tonga Loa, nor should Reed waste his energy on Jimmy Uso.
Unless there’s an interesting subplot about Rollins and Reigns patching up that I’m not yet aware of, it seems like a misdirected decision. Even if that is coming up, I doubt Reed’s involvement will make sense retrospectively. WWE might be banking on the “the rule of cool” to distract fans from any logical inaccuracies, merely for the thrill of seeing those two wrestlers in the ring.
