Professional wrestler Big Bill, also known as Big Cass, has openly discussed his previous struggles with alcohol addiction. He was grappling with this issue during his departure from WWE in 2018.
Big Cass was let go from WWE after deviating from the script during a segment featuring a little person, amidst an ongoing rivalry with Bryan Danielson.
Big Bill recently joined the “Talk is Jericho” podcast where he opened about his release and concurrent battle with alcoholism. He shared,
“So I got fired, had money in the bank, and a roof over my head. Nothing fiscally to really worry about, and nothing but free time. I was a full-blown alcoholic at that time…I was drinking sun up to sun down every day.”
He also recollected the infamous incident at the House of Hardcore show where he experienced a collapse, causing concern amongst fans and fellow wrestlers for his health. He admitted,
“I went to that show in Philadelphia, House of Hardcore and I cut off my drinking earlier in the day, because I don’t want to wrestle while having a ton of alcohol in my system and that was a huge mistake, because within a few hours, I had a seizure from alcohol withdrawal… I had that seizure and then I was like, I need to get myself together.”
Big Bill also revealed that at a time he was having liquor delivered to his house daily, always telling the delivery driver it was for company.
Big Bill managed to overcome his addiction through fitness. Personal trainer Doug Lawson was instrumental in helping Bill regain his physical health and achieve sobriety. He now wrestles for AEW.
