Should Malakai Black Leave AEW? | Question Of The Day

Welcome to our new eWrestlingNews Thought for the Day!

There are rumors circulating that Malakai Black might exit All Elite Wrestling by this year’s end or early 2025. However, this remains to be confirmed. Should such a departure take place?

Our question of the day is “What are your thoughts on Malakai Black potentially leaving AEW? Is it a wise move? Why or why not?”

Don’t forget to share your responses in the comment section below.

Here’s my take…

While none of us can know the ins and outs of backstage politics, I’d venture that if Black were to return to WWE, his personal life might be more contented since his wife (Zelina Vega) is also part of that setup. A more aligned schedule could mean more quality time together. But there are exceptions, like Buddy Matthews, who despite being in the same company as Rhea Ripley, maintains his separate crew. If that works for them, power to them; maybe they thrive on some solitude, too.

If he were to exit AEW for any place other than WWE, then the above doesn’t hold. It makes me wonder about his motivations. I can’t believe another company would offer more remuneration, none possess WWE’s visibility, and only AEW can vie with the ideal balance of schedule and pay. If he is desperately seeking a world championship and TNA guarantees that in his contract, then maybe. Otherwise, I suppose it’s WWE or sticking with AEW despite this report.

One potential advantage of rerouting to WWE could be the prospect of a greater spotlight than AEW offers. It’s quite evident that Tony Khan does not consider him as world champion material as he never even contests for the titles. I doubt Black consigned to merely tag team status in AEW was his preferred role. WWE may not see him in a higher profile role either, yet he could possibly edge into something like the United States Championship domain.

I would be keen to witness more of Black’s one-on-one face-offs with the remaining members of the AEW roster, but also a meet up with WWE stars appeals. It’s hard to compare having competitors like Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada, Adam Page, Jon Moxley, and Orange Cassidy on one side and the likes Bron Breakker, Damian Priest, Ilja Dragunov, CM Punk, Carmelo Hayes on the other. Both present ample opportunities, so it’s a tie there.

Given my slight preference for WWE over AEW, I’d be intrigued to see him switch to Raw or SmackDown for some diversity. While in AEW, I have the comfort of watching him in compelling matches every week, WWE may serve up deeper rivalries that I would relish. Yet, I won’t be deterred if he stays with AEW.
