Samantha Irvin recently caused a stir in the wrestling realm by revealing her plans to exit WWE, just before the airing of the Monday Night Raw episode on October 16.
Irvin unveiled her ambitions to pursue a career as a WWE manager, contrary to her former role as a ring announcer. This revelation elicited a backlash on her social media.
Ricochet, Irvin’s spouse, contextualized her decision to leave as a break from WWE tradition during his stint on the “Insight” podcast. He attributed the negative online reaction to her departure to this break from convention.
As per Ricochet, Irvin does not plan to join AEW but rather direct her energy towards other endeavors.
Below are some key points Ricochet highlighted during the podcast:
Regarding Irvin’s departure: “Her natural inclination is towards arts and music. She never considered herself an announcer. Although this in no way discredits the role, it simply wasn’t her calling or her passion.”
On Irvin leaving because it wasn’t her dream job: “While many took offense to her departure, she merely broke away from tradition. Especially in WWE, there’s a dependence on consistency. When a gimmick works, they stick with it. So when Irvin abruptly stopped, fans reacted negatively.”
On the backlash of her departure: “Irvin broke away from the wrestling tradition. Long-standing wrestlers like Rey Mysterio and AJ Styles symbolize this commitment to tradition. When something in wrestling resonates with fans and improves their watching experience, they crave its continuity. Her leaving was a break from this expectation.”
On Samantha Irvin leaving WWE: “Her goal was always to interact more intimately with WWE, and was a fan before her career in it. Mark Henry noticed her talent during the pandemic and recommended her to WWE. However, she was only supposed to be a stepping stone into WWE, with performing always being her main goal.”
On clearing up rumours about Irvin joining AEW: “In reality, the conjecture circulating on social media about her joining AEW is unfounded.”
On his exit from WWE television: “The manner of my exit was designed to keep options open for the future. As it stands currently, I’ve been content with how things have unfolded.”
On if he knew he was done with WWE after the Bron Breakker plotline: “There was never a certainty about leaving. But after a while, I wanted to explore new avenues.”
On his reasons for leaving WWE: “I wanted to reignite my passion for wrestling and that is why I believed in AEW. Since joining them, I believe I made the right choice.”
