On a recent episode of his podcast titled “Grilling JR”, Jim Ross dissected the ascent of Triple H to a dominant villain role in WWE during 1999. He dealt with the criticisms about Triple H’s role in the company, among other intriguing topics.

Here are some of the key points gathered from the podcast episode:

When discussing Triple H’s elevation to a villainous superstar in 1999, he expressed, “Triple H emerged as undoubtedly the top villain in the company. I am unable to point out another one who could have taken that spot. All the rumors and jibber jabber about his romantic liaisons and later his eventual matrimony are irrelevant. Triple H earned his place in the company through hard work. His dedication towards his craft is clearly visible in his current work. His position might have changed, but his ability to excel remains intact. More often than not, he is winning in his contemporary role.”

As to why Triple H was chosen for that pivotal role, he shared, “Triple H was genuinely meritorious and deserving of that position. I can’t think of another person on our roster who was more prepared to assume that responsibility than Triple H himself. There are still individuals to this day who falsely believe that I despise Triple H and vice versa. We must remember that it’s professional wrestling. Our duty, above all else, is to create fameworthy characters and build their persona. I firmly believe that we successfully sculpted Triple H´s persona as per his initiative and in my opinion, he was the ideal choice for that spot.”

Addressing the criticism Triple H faced as a significant star, Ross commented, “Many attribute it to his personal relationships and marital status which in my opinion, had no bearing on his work performance. I firmly believe that Triple H was the only person equipped to take on this role even after all these years. The moment he was given the opportunity, he rose to the occasion and delivered remarkably well.”
