The honor of clinching the ROH World title is a significant achievement for any participant in the promotion, and for Mark Briscoe, 2021 was a memorable year.
At this year’s ‘Supercard of Honor’ event held in April, Briscoe seized the championship, exactly eleven years after his brother Jay clinched the same honor.
During a recent sit-down with “Foundation Radio,” Briscoe shared his thoughts on why this victory was so important to him. He stated,
“People often overuse the term ‘special,’ to refer to memorable moments. ‘Oh that was so special.’ [Securing the ROH World Championship] was indeed a uniquely special moment. The stars really aligned 11 years to the day my brother secured the title, in Philly where Ring of Honor was born, [and during] the most anticipated wrestling weekend of the year.
“Being so close to my roots, with dozens of friends and family making the two-hour drive to support me. It certainly was a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience; a memory I will always hold dear.”
During Briscoe’s tenure as champion, he successfully defended his title against renowned wrestlers like Kyle Fletcher, Roderick Strong, Johnny TV, The Beast Mortos, and Matt Taven.
Unfortunately, Briscoe’s reign ended on a recent installment of AEW Dynamite when Chris Jericho emerged victorious in the ‘Ladder War’ with a crucial assist from Big Bill.
