On a new episode of “Everybody’s Got a Pod” podcast, WWE Hall of Fame inductee Ted DiBiase Sr. reminisced about his wrestling career’s final stages. He talked in detail about his last WWE match in 1993 with Scott Hall, how he chose not to announce his retirement in advance, and why he made such decisions.
Here are some podcast highlights:
Discussing his ultimate opponent, Scott Hall, DiBiase Sr. shared his high esteem for Hall and his bond with Kevin. He expressed his satisfaction with wrestling his last match with Scott. “I liked Scott. He and Kevin were more like a team, and very good friends as well. So, having a match with Scott —I couldn’t think of a better way to say goodbye to the ring. At that point, nobody was aware of my impending retirement, and I didn’t want a hyped farewell. I never declared a date stating ‘this is the last time you will ever see Teddy DiBiase in the ring.’ That just never happened.”
Talking about not making his retirement public in advance, DiBiase Sr. recalled how some wrestlers preferred to announce their exit from the ring. He quickly added that this was not a path he chose. “There’s a few guys that went out that announced it [beforehand]. ‘This is going to be the last time I get in the ring. This is my last match,’ etc. But that approach didn’t work for me. True, it was my last wrestling match, but it wasn’t going to be the last time fans were going to see me. I was planning to continue in my roles as a manager and a commentator.”
