In his recent guesting on the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Shawn Michaels shared his thoughts on WWE NXT’s decision to hold a suite of television tapings at Philadelphia’s famed 2300 Arena.
The conversation from the podcast has been compiled below for a sneak-peek:
Speaking about the decision to hold NXT in the 2300 Arena, Michaels said: “This is a big deal. It may sound odd, but I always admired the pioneering and original approach that [ECW] implemented during that era. I realized then, that this was something WWE would never be able to replicate. Such opportunities come seldom in a career and you guys [referring to Bully] created something extraordinary at that time. There has always been this constant question in my mind and with the WWE – how do we recreate such magic, or at least make an earnest attempt to emulate that moment? We strived to do this with the WWE and succeeded to quite an extent, but it needed to exemplify something similar to what you guys achieved; hordes of aspiring young talent putting their all into the ring. It feels like NXT embodies all these aspects. Undoubtedly, it’s a WWE division.”
When asked about his maiden visit to the arena, Michaels commented: “As it stands today, I have yet to make my debut in that establishment. The anticipation of going there and experiencing that enthralling crowd thrills me. That’s why you guys did what you did; for those very fans. They inspired you and brought out your best. That’s what I’m aiming to see transpire when NXT stages its event there. The audience is eager, perhaps the excitement looks different, but the zeal is palpably high. Everyone is aware of the building’s legendary heritage and the milestones achieved here. They aspire to add to that history, carve out their own path and be recognized. The atmosphere is electric and filled with excitement.”
