Earlier in the week, we reported that Toni Storm, ex-Women’s World Champion of AEW, took the top spot in this year’s Women’s 250 Rankings by Pro Wrestling Illustrated. Reacting to this news in her “Mone Mag” newsletter, AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone expressed her thoughts on Storm’s achievement and her own ambitions.
Sharing the highlights from her newsletter, Mone had this to say about Storm: “Toni Storm deserves a standing ovation. Seeing Toni on the cover of Pro Wrestling Illustrated was absolutely incredible. She has been on a roll in recent years, morphing into a phenomenal character. I have to confess, even before signing with AEW, my primary motivation for tuning into AEW Dynamite every week was largely to see Toni in action. Her ranking as number one in the PWI 250 is incredibly well deserved.”
Giving her perspective on not finding herself in this year’s rankings, Mone stated: “Regrettably, I didn’t make the cut this year, as I fell one match short of eligibility! Don’t mistake my wording, it stings to be just one match short, but I’m certainly aiming for the top spot next year. It’s well known that wrestling match outcomes are pre-determined, so it could be assumed that rankings of this nature might not hold much weight. However, these rankings do not define me or any other wrestler for that matter, but recognition is always a pleasant feeling.”
In other news, Toni Storm is set to battle La Catalina in her CMLL debut, scheduled for CMLL Viernes Espectacular tomorrow.
In a separate interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling, Brody King from AEW talked about his interaction with former WWE Superstar MVP, who was joining AEW for the first time. He commented,
“For those who follow my career, they’ll know that I’ve had significant interactions with MVP. We competed in MLW, and when I was a newbie, he was among the first to mentor me. I learned a lot from him in my early days. His appearance in AEW was as surprising for me as it was for the audience. After his debut, I greeted him with a warm welcome to AEW, a hug, and a handshake.”
