Who Should Be Jon Moxley’s First Challenger After AEW WrestleDream 2024? | Question Of The Day

Glad to have you back for another round of eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!

We have an exciting episode of AEW Dynamite tonight with All Elite Wrestling gearing up post-AEW WrestleDream. Midcard and upper-midcard talents are set to get a bigger push towards the main event, making things more challenging with Jon Moxley as the new AEW world champion.

The question for today is “Who should pose the first challenge to Moxley for the AEW World Championship? How should the opponent be built up and when should the showdown happen?”

Don’t forget to share your response in the comments section below.

Here’s my opinion…

Many may argue that Darby Allin should be the first one to challenge Moxley, given his direct involvement in the story. However, my pick is not Allin as I believe he should be the one to defeat Moxley, but not anytime soon. The idea of having Allin vs. Moxley now, with Moxley retaining the title, doesn’t excite me. Redeeming a victory after suffering a loss doesn’t usually work well.

Instead, I predict the Allin and Moxley showdown somewhere in 2025. Meanwhile, Allin should engage in feuds with Wheeler Yuta and others while Moxley squares off against some less popular talents.

Naming the first challenger for Moxley’s title is tricky without knowing future storylines. However, a few names that come to mind as potential challengers include HOOK, who’s not ready for the world title yet, and Adam Copeland who could boost Moxley’s profile if he’s back in the game. Orange Cassidy was teased for a push at WrestleDream so it would be intriguing to see him challenge Moxley.

Daniel Garcia, Mark Briscoe, Jay White, and Adam Cole are all worthy but need more time and momentum before a title match. As for the immediate challenger, I’d go for Jeff Jarrett.

Jarrett has history with Moxley and Danielson, holds multiple world titles and is a wrestling legend. Despite this, everyone knows Jarrett wouldn’t win. So why not have him challenge Moxley for the title while setting up another contender for Full Gear?

Let’s see Jarrett vs. Moxley on TV, and establish other potential challengers gradually. It would be great to hear your thoughts too!
