October to be marked as Adopt a Shelter Dog Month by Drew Barrymore and Dave Bautista with the ASPCA
Both Barrymore and Bautista will advocate for The Rescue Effect, an initiative by the ASPCA, by endorsing adoptable dogs on their personal social media throughout October.
NEW YORK, October 8, 2024 — Today the ASPCA announced its partnership with acclaimed actors, animal lovers, and pet parents Drew Barrymore and Dave Bautista. The aim is to inspire dog adoption and fostering during October, recognized as Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. Barrymore and Bautista will promote adoptable dogs from the ASPCA on their social media in hopes of helping these animals find their forever homes. The ASPCA, Barrymore, and Bautista this year are endorsing The Rescue Effect campaign, which highlights the difference adoption or fostering can make by creating space for more homeless animals.
ASPCA’s CEO, Matt Bershadker, expressed his gratitude towards Barrymore and Bautista for their heartfelt support towards dogs in shelters. As part of the Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, both Barrymore and Bautista will enlighten the public about pet adoption and fostering, aiming to create more room in shelters for animals in need.
Barrymore, a renowned actress and unwavering supporter of animal welfare, is a proud mother to seven adopted pets. In 2016, she was recognized with the ASPCA Compassion Award for her tremendous contributions to animal welfare.
Similarly, Bautista, with a background in wrestling and acting, is known for his pet adoption advocacy. He is a proud parent of four adopted pit bulls and consistently fights for the breed.
Throughout October, Barrymore and Bautista will request public support in adopting or fostering a dog to alleviate overcrowded shelters. Last year, 3.2 million dogs were taken into shelters, and only 2.2 million were adopted. Shelters are currently striving to find loving homes for the animals in their care, particularly those with significant medical and behavioral needs who remain longer in the shelter.
Dave Bautista shared his experience with his rescue dogs, expressing the life-changing positivity they brought to his life and urged people to adopt to give shelter pets a second chance at life.
