In a recent episode of his podcast “Six Feet Under”, The Undertaker reminisced about his Hell in a Cell match with Brock Lesnar which took place at the WWE No Mercy event in 2002.
In the podcast, several highlights can be gleaned:
Regarding his 2002 Hell in a Cell match with Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker commented: “Brock’s athleticism was something to behold inside a cell. Despite it being his first time, his raw youthful energy, coupled with his natural, instinctive ferocity, compensated for what he lacked in polish. The return saw an improved Brock, with enhanced wrestling IQ; however, his innate possessiveness of aggressiveness and killer instincts never faded. These qualities made him a formidable opponent even during my stint as the American Badass.”
The Undertaker felt that the match is often overlooked in discussions about Hell in the Cell matches, saying: “When putting Hell in the Cell matches into perspective, this one is often underrated. It essentially embodies the principle behind such matches – a battle where only one man emerges victorious. With both Lesnar and his ally Heyman getting wounded in that match, it was quite a brutal affair.”
When asked if he preferred to wrestle Lesnar as The Deadman or the American Badass, The Undertaker responded: “Honestly, both personas worked for me when wrestling with Lesnar. I think his approach mattered more. Lesnar’s aggressive style makes him a formidable opponent. Often, wrestlers would be hesitant due to the intimidating character I portray and my history, needing my prompt to ‘bring it’. But with Lesnar, he was always full throttle”.
