In a recent episode of “Barstool Rasslin’,” wrestling legend Hulk Hogan spoke about how he planned to take on a villainous persona after his loss to The Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania 6. However, his proposal to become ‘Hollywood’ Hulk Hogan was rejected by Vince McMahon, who believed it wouldn’t be a successful move.
Not until Hogan left WWE in 1994 and joined WCW in 1996 did he finally take on the “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan persona, embracing the heel (villain) character. Hogan said, “I wanted to turn into a bad guy after the Warrior beat me [at WrestleMania VI]. I suggested to Vince that I should turn on him after the match and become the ‘Hollywood’ Hulk Hogan, but he didn’t think it would work.”
On his “Something To Wrestle” podcast, Bruce Prichard discussed how the Powers of Pain (The Warlord and The Barbarian) had modeled themselves after the Road Warriors amongst other topics. As per the podcast highlights, Prichard confirmed this saying, “Yes, 100%. They were brought into WCW as a new version of Road Warriors.”
Prichard also elaborated on why WWE decided to bring in the Powers of Pain over the Road Warriors: “A lot of wrestlers wanted to leave Jim Crockett Promotions. The Powers of Pain were two of those who were disgruntled being at Jim Crockett Promotions. They wanted to join us, so it was not because of any preference, it was more about who wanted to join.”
