Buff Bagwell is unsure as to his reasons for ever setting foot in a WWE ring, reflecting back on an incident from over two decades ago where he was fired shortly after a match with Booker T on RAW.
Bagwell and Booker T locked horns for the WCW World Championship during the main event of the WWE RAW episode aired on July 2, 2001. Booker T emerged victorious in the match.
The fight has garnered notoriety over the years, being considered one of the least impressive main events in RAW’s history. Subsequently, Bagwell was promptly released from the company.
During his recent appearance on the podcast “The Wrestling Chatter”, Bagwell delved into the specifics of that fateful match and his immediate exit thereafter. His thoughts on the situation were:
“Why did we even do that match in Tacoma? You put Booker T and Buff Bagwell in Atlanta, Georgia, and it’s going to be a totally different outcome, brother. I was informed that I was being let go and that, ‘We would bring you back in three months’ and I had faith in their assurance, but when I reached out after three months, they responded as if they didn’t recognize me.”
It has been a common narrative over the years that Bagwell found himself in hot water swiftly in WWE, backed by reports of his mother calling WWE HQ demanding that he be given some time off.
