This Saturday at WWE Bad Blood 2024, WWE Women’s Champion, Nia Jax, is geared to defensively take on Bayley.
In an engaging chat with Cathy Kelley, Jax talked about her upcoming match and the strides she’s made in her WWE career so far.
Here are some principal points from the interview:
Reflecting on her match with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London: “The NXT TakeOver in London is a memory that will always stick with me. Everyone vied to participate in those TakeOvers because it felt like we were laying the groundwork for a new era in women’s wrestling. Being a part of that match and having the chance to win the NXT Women’s Championship was significant. The adrenaline in that stadium was wild. Yes, I wanted to beat Bayley. I admit, she’s defeated me more times than I’ve defeated her. I aspired to be the leading lady at NXT when Charlotte, Sasha and Becky were promoted. With Bayley and Asuka holding the title picture, I was ambitious to claim that title. It wasn’t meant to be then, but look where I am now.”
Nia Jax on taking a hiatus from WWE: “That intermission was probably the best thing that could have happened to me. Initially, yes, it was hard to acknowledge that I wouldn’t be performing and travelling. However, it was a restorative period which rekindled my passion and affinity for wrestling which I felt was waning a bit. I often say, it was one of the most advantageous happenings for me. I got to reset Nia Jax.”
On her reputation of not being sociable in WWE: “I don’t necessarily feel the need to be overly amiable. This is a profession, it’s a contest, and this is the reward. Ultimately, I’m not here to cater to your sensitivities. I’m here to work, I’m here to be the best, which is my target. So, if forming friendships is your main objective, perhaps this isn’t the right job for you. Try locating a job in a local supermarket where you can be pals with everyone. But around here, it’s all about competition. You aim to be at the top, you chase the gold. And that’s precisely what I want, that’s what I possess.”
