David Shoemaker, during his recent appearance on “The Masked Man Show,” revolved around his experiences regarding the production of the Netflix documentary series, “Mr. McMahon.” Initially, the project was being collectively developed with WWE, which helped bring McMahon into the picture. However, the emergence of sexual misconduct allegations against him in July 2022 caused WWE to pull the plug on their involvement with the project.
The podcast touched upon several aspects of the journey, with notable highlights as follows:
Speaking on the WWE’s initial engagement, Shoemaker remarked, “Initially, WWE came on board as a producer. Without their involvement, it wouldn’t have been possible to get Vince to participate, nor the archival material. They contributed significantly to the project. I’m not clued in on every detail, but what I do know is that once the allegations against Vince started to raise serious concerns, it became impossible to carry on with the WWE’s co-production. It’s safe to assume that WWE must have felt the same way and didn’t want to be a part of it.”
Talking about WWE’s decision to retract, he said, “Eventually, the WWE dissociated from the project. During our interview with Bruce Prichard, we found out that, at some point, they had lost their access to early cuts, having previously had it. Personally, I believe that this turn of events benefited the entire documentary.”
