Mariah May Retains AEW Women’s World Title, Willow Nightingale & Mina Shirakawa Notes

Mariah May successfully defended her title as AEW Women’s World Champion against Yuka Sakazaki in the second-to-last match at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam 2024. Following a tense match, it seemed that May was set to continue her assault on Sakazaki, only for Willow Nightingale to intervene.

Emerging as a strong opposition to the champion, Nightingale stepped in to protect Sakazaki. However, an unexpected distraction diverted her attention. Timing perfectly with the distraction, Mina Shirakawa was entering with her theme song playing, providing May with a chance to ambush Nightingale and escape from the ring toward a bewildered Shirakawa who appeared to have no hand in the unfolding chaos.

May then embraced a surprised Shirakawa and bolted as Sakazaki sought retaliation. An astonished Shirakawa was left in the middle of the ring as the enigmatic session came to an end.
