Daniel Garcia’s future with AEW seemed pretty solid at one point, despite drawing attention from WWE. But now, it appears AEW’s certainty in Garcia’s continuity has faltered.
Garcia made a comeback on AEW television amid the clash between MJF and Will Ospreay battling for the International Title at AEW All In London 2024. He stormed into the match causing MJF to lose, providing an opportunity for Ospreay to regain the title.
Regrettably, Garcia was subsequently defeated by MJF at AEW’s All Out 2024 event.
As we’ve been constantly updating at eWn, Garcia is yet to secure his position with a new contract, and the expiration of his existing one is looming in October 2024.
Wrestling Observer Radio’s latest episode featured Dave Meltzer’s thoughts on the evolving scenario around Garcia’s association with AEW. In Meltzer’s own words, “Indeed, it all relates to the fact that AEW isn’t showcasing him on television due to his non-renewal of the contract. It doesn’t appear they want to give him TV time until he decides to commit, which is understandable. Why not allocate the TV slots to those who have signed up? Regarding Garcia’s future…His likelihood of signing or the high certainty that was there earlier, it doesn’t seem as strong now. I can’t call it a departure either, but it’s definitely not as convincing as it was a month back. He might walk away. The failure to sign before the previous pay-per-view poses a question, ‘Why didn’t he sign before the last pay-per-view?’ It did make a difference.”
