LA Knight successfully defended his United States Championship against Andrade in a challenge that began this week’s edition of WWE SmackDown.
Previous to this title defense, Andrade had claimed victory over Carmelo Hayes in a match for the no. 1 contender spot, concluding their Best of V Series with a 3-2 advantage. This victory earned him a chance at the title, which he took full advantage of, putting up an impressive fight against the US champion.
Throughout the match, Andrade managed to pull off stunning moves like an instantaneous moonsault just after dodging Knight’s — a moment which was arguably the highlight of the event. However, it was not enough to claim victory. Eventually, Knight executed the BFT, landing the decisive pinfall victory.
Following their fierce match, the two WWE stars displaying a mutual respect for each other, symbolised by a handshake at the end of their contest. However, relations between Andrade and Carmelo Hayes didn’t follow the same peaceful path. After the match, during a commercial break, Hayes confronted Andrade, mocking his loss with scalding comments like “I haven’t seen a choke like that since the Kings did against the Lakers” and “Just put the fries in the bag, bro. You’re washed.” This led to yet another altercation between the two, with officials eventually stepping in to separate them. The animosity between Andrade and Hayes is evidently not yet resolved.
