In a recent episode of the “Insight with Chris Van Vliet” podcast, Ken Shamrock, a former WWE Superstar and UFC fighter, shared his thoughts on a potential WWE Hall of Fame induction and memorable moments from his wrestling career, including being the recipient of the first People’s Elbow.
From the interview, the following key points were noted:
About not being yet a WWE Hall of Fame member: Shamrock said, “When people ask me, it’s not really something that I think a lot about. I enjoyed my stint in wrestling and seized the opportunity because it was a means to support my family at a time when I was struggling in MMA. It was a gamble, but worth it. I truly appreciated everything about the experience, including moments with The Rock, and in a surprising twist, I really enjoyed the chair shot.”
Regarding a potential induction, Shamrock said, “As an athlete, the recognition is definitely wanted. But it isn’t something I obsess about. I’m thankful for everything I’ve achieved in life. If it happens, it would be like icing on the cake. No matter what, I’m content with my journey and life.”
Remembering the iconic chair shot from The Rock, Shamrock shared, “I had actually told him to aim for my face, and not the top or back of my head. He was stunned at first, but I assured him that I would protect myself. The forehead is the thickest part of the skull, so I figured it would be the best place to take the hit. It turned out better than I expected and was a memorable moment for me.”
Recalling the experience of being the recipient of the first People’s Elbow, he said, “I think I was one of the first to get it. It was during the early days when The Rock was still perfecting it. The overriding memory of those matches with The Rock was the sense of achieving something great together and I believe we held our own even in a star-packed roster.”
