Earlier this year, Mercedes Mone and Megan Thee Stallion contemplated a collaboration. Recently, however, Megan’s song “Neva Play” became the official soundtrack for WWE SmackDown, marking her current partnership with WWE.
Mercedes reacted to the earlier rumours about their intended collaboration in her recent “Mone Mag” newsletter edition and regretted not maintaining secrecy.
She shared, “Sports Illustrated and other outlets have reported discussions between my manager Kev, and Meg’s representative, Mike B., about a potential collaboration at AEW- and this is true. Unfortunately, I prematurely hinted about it in an interview few weeks ago. More recently, the news broke that Megan will be contributing to the new Smackdown theme. Of course, it could all be coincidental. However, they don’t call me the blueprint for nothing. Looking back, I realize I should have been more discreet, but it’s all a learning process. Despite the outcome, I’m somewhat pleased as it shows we are on the right path. Although I would have loved a collaboration with Meg and anticipated her association with our brand, I’m genuinely happy for her. She is a talented individual who will be exposed to a huge wrestling audience. Rest assured, AEW and Team Moné have much more in store. You’ll just have to wait to hear about it this time. 😉”
Back in February, the two women met at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards in Japan, where they realized their mutual admiration. This sparked discussions among their teams.
Their managers, Mike B of Roc Nation for Megan and Keven Undergaro for Mercedes, negotiated and arrived at a decision to collaborate.
Previously, Mone had subtly suggested a possible collaboration while promoting All In London 2024 and expressed her aspiration to bring Megan on board with AEW. Furthermore, they explored the idea of a possible collaboration with WWE in 2021.
Following Mone’s revealing interview, WWE signed a deal with Megan Thee Stallion for her music to feature on SmackDown, an unexpected move for Mone and her team.
