During a recent guest-spot on the “Gabby AF” podcast, Jonathan Coachman, ex-WWE announcer, offered some criticisms of the AEW All Out 2024 pay-per-view event’s Hangman Page vs. Swerve Strickland Unsanctioned Steel Cage Match, which took place earlier this month.

Addressing the syringe part in the Hangman Page vs. Swerve Strickland fight, Coachman communicated, “People tend to argue, ‘Coach, this is only a storyline. If this scene were in a film …’ But it’s not a film. It’s a live-action spectacle, with kids witnessing it directly from the front row. This points to lack of creativity… When the story is so underwhelming that you resort to placing a hypodermic needle in someone’s mouth — it was despicable.”
As for Tony Khan making conclusions informed by audience reactions over social media, he stated: “It’s a certainty that he engages in this strategy. Hence, he’s accepting advice from these novices and these self-proclaimed experts who assume they’re well-informed.”
Expressing concerns over the peril of youngsters replicating scenes from AEW battles, he said: “I dread the day — and I regret saying this — when I’ll be hearing a report of a tiny 9-year-old accidentally causing his sibling to asphyxiate because they were role-playing in the garden, and he emulated Bryan Danielson because he thought, ‘I should try it.’ I was disgusted by the entire [event].”
