Matt Riddle has disclosed that he’s had a conversation with Tony Khan, but he remains uncertain about the AEW President’s assessment of him.
In a conversation with Sports Illustrated, the ex-WWE Superstar addressed the prospect of him becoming part of AEW.
Here are key points from his dialogue:
Discussing AEW: “A fantastic entity, that’s how I perceive AEW. My acquaintances are a part of their team. I am fond of the organization, their protocol and the personnel. Having faced the spotlight frequently because of my flamboyant character displays while working with WWE, I experienced the intense pressure of appearing on TV two to three times a week. Although I relished the pressure and chaos to an extent, it got overwhelming. Transitioning to AEW seems to be the optimal solution – it promises better remuneration and manageable work schedule. However, I am not ready yet to be on TV again, not ready for the spotlight, I desire a break. I simply want to engage with independents for now.”
Regarding a potential move to AEW, he stated, “MLW collaborates with New Japan and they are associated with AEW too. There’s a chance I might feature on AEW network or telecast sooner than you think or not at all. Tony (Khan) and I had a discussion but I still can’t ascertain his feelings towards me. During my match with Zach Sabre Jr. in Chicago, he seemed alright about it. But my satirical nature might have baffled him. While thanking him post-match, I might have expressed myself a bit differently than expected. He appeared puzzled, leading to me shrugging it off and leaving.”
