John Bradshaw Layfield, widely known as JBL, has recently been sighted in AAA, GCW, and TNA Wrestling, which has sparked conjecture about a possible return from retirement. The retired professional wrestler recently posted a picture from the gym, indicating that he’s in solid physical shape.
At the age of 57, although a full-time wrestling return might be a tall order, a one-off match is not entirely off the cards. This possibility is bolstered by the fact that several wrestlers over the age of 50 have recently been in the spotlight for their high-profile matches and the increasing income opportunities in the industry.
It’s important to note that Layfield is still contracted to a WWE Legends deal as per Pwinsider. This contract allows WWE the right to hire him for appearances, while he maintains the freedom to work with other wrestling promotions provided he doesn’t use the JBL character, which is the intellectual property of WWE.
Consequently, during appearances out of the WWE ecosystem, the WWE Hall of Famer uses his name, John Layfield, as opposed to his full wrestling name, John Bradshaw Layfield, or his popular moniker, JBL. Additionally, he doesn’t fully dress as his JBL character during these appearances.
On the other hand, insiders at WWE have hinted that they don’t have a problem with Layfield making non-WWE appearances. However, plans regarding his return to the wrestling ring, if any, remain unconfirmed at this point.
