Matt Hardy, a seasoned veteran of TNA, shared insights regarding his recent interaction with WWE during the 2024 SummerSlam weekend on his podcast, “Extreme Life”. The encounter also involved his brother, Jeff Hardy, and included shooting material for WWE to use in the future.
Highlights of the conversation include:
Dwelling on his rendezvous with WWE, Matt mentioned that they were greeted by a WWE driver as soon as they arrived in Cleveland. The driver escorted them to the WWE TV hotel, there they recorded some media which is scheduled to aired on various platforms in the coming months. He expressed it was wonderful to reconnect with the team. He added that the first individual they met was Jey Uso and it was great to see the rest of the crew.
In terms of the nature of the meeting, Matt characterized it as a pleasant visit. The Hardy brothers had an interaction with the production team who expressed a desire to facilitate more such meetings in future. Matt also underscored that it meant a lot for Jeff to clear the air about his AEW missteps before the WWE crew.
On the topic of a potential return to WWE, Matt recalled WWE as their inception place which turned them into “tag team legends”. Matt hinted they might want to retire from WWE, terming it their “home”. Though they considered doing the same with AEW earlier, they feel a full circle return to WWE would be more fulfilling.
Discussed the possibility of a WWE Hall of Fame induction even before their retirement, Matt acknowledged that it has a distinct feel to it. He said WWE’s new regime is looking to influence their future course, which is leading to a change in the way businesses function, especially with performers who are not on a full-time contract.
Appreciating the TNA-NXT collaboration, he revealed he is a fan of the crossover between the two platforms, as it is advantageous to the overall business. He concluded by adding that they are WWE legacy performers and it makes sense to wind up their careers there. He shared a video from the podcast for fans to enjoy.
