WWE and AEW have had a history of competitive interactions. In the past, direct competition was manifested when NXT was aired on Wednesdays in parallel with AEW Dynamite. This was made even more prominent when NXT was broadcast early on the USA Network prior to the launch of Dynamite in 2019. Moreover, both organizations have previously hosted their pay-per-view events simultaneously, such as the case during the AEW Collision. Other strategic decisions directed towards the rival brand are also noticeable.

Similarly, AEW has taken steps to confront WWE as well. Owing to a particular scheduling mismatch, both organizations will see their next Tuesday night face-off between NXT and Dynamite this upcoming autumn season.

In the recent AEW announcement, their much-anticipated pay-per-view event, ‘Worlds End 2024’, is set to happen on December 28th at the Addition Financial Arena, located in Orlando, Florida. In contrast, WWE has recently divulged plans of organizing a live event at near-proximity at the Kia Center in Orlando, Florida, coinciding with AEW’s event.

The direct rivalry between WWE and AEW is not likely to make any significant effect on PPV purchases. However, it may potentially impact the attendance figures for the ‘Worlds End 2024’ event of AEW.

The official announcement for WWE’s event was made through an official tweet:
“Just announced – All your favorite Superstars will be back in Orlando on December 28 for the WWE Live Holiday Tour!”
