During the August 13, 2024 episode of WWE NXT, a new NXT Heritage Cup Champion was crowned. The challenger, Charlie Dempsey, walked away triumphant following a grueling match against Tony D’Angelo, earning a hard-earned 2-1 victory. Earlier this year, Dempsey had lost the cup to Tony D, this win sees him regain the prestigious award.
Dempsey had tirelessly pursued an opportunity to reclaim the championship, seeking any possible channel to compete for the title. Tony D’Angelo presented him with a chance, under the stipulation that Wren Sinclair joins the No Quarter Catch Crew.
While Sinclair has proven to be a nuisance to Dempsey recently, the help proved beneficial in the match. Sinclair managed to push D’Angelo off the ropes, a critical interference that caused enough distraction and put D’Angelo in a vulnerable position, thereby enabling Dempsey to make the winning pinfall.
The tweet from WWE says it all:
“WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!? Charlie Dempsey is the new Heritage Cup Champion! 😱#WWENXT”
After this turn of events, D’Angelo may be regretting his move to toy with Dempsey, leading to his eventual downfall. Meanwhile, Dempsey can revel in being the second WWE Superstar, following Noam Dar, to win the Heritage Cup more than once.
