In a recent interaction with Newsweek, wrestling industry bigwig Paul Heyman predicted future trends for the world of wrestling.

During this conversation, Heyman divulged that his father’s influence played a crucial role in shaping his views. He further expressed that the future of professional wrestling will be marked by increasing transparency.

Here are some notable excerpts from the interaction:

On the topic of his father’s influence, he stated, “In all honesty, none of my interviews or promos could ever compare to what I’ve seen my father execute in front of a Bronx jury when he was practicing law. He applied every basic show business principle.”

Looking ahead at what could define the wrestling industry, Heyman mused, “An epoch featuring more transparency. An intelligent discourse of the product. An authenticity surrounding the characters. And enthralling stories. The answer to what lies in the future for professional wrestling is the same that underpinned its remarkable elevation during the attitude era, the expansion in 1984, the flourishing of territories in the 70s, the prevalence on the DuMont network in the ’50s, going back to as early as 1905 with Frank Gotch and George Hackenschmidt.”

He continued, “It’s the identical element that fueled trivalries like the Yankees and the Red Sox, the Lakers and the Celtics, the Chicago Bulls and their NBA rivals in the ’80s, the Pittsburgh Steelers in combat with the Dallas Cowboys. The questions that resound are – Who are these people? Why is there conflict? Why should I be invested enough to pay to view? If these questions are answered, you have a viewer, a ticket buyer, a network subscriber, a merchandise buyer.”
