During a recent conversation with ComicBook.com, WWE superstar John Cena opened up about his impending retirement tour. He claimed that no financial offer could entice him to return to wrestle again.
In an unexpected turn of events at the WWE Money In The Bank event in 2024, Cena made a sudden announcement of his official retirement from wrestling, to be effective from 2025.
The WWE Champion revealed plans for wrestling in approximately 30 to 40 matches the following year as part of his departure tour.
Here are some notable excerpts from the interview:
Discussing the decision to end his wrestling career, Cena commented, “There isn’t a person with enough wealth to alter my decision to retire in December. Neither ego nor financial rewards would motivate me to continue. Over the years, I’ve built an honest and trustworthy rapport with the WWE – both with those who praise me and criticize me. I’m reliable and genuine. When I say I’m done in December, I truly mean it. It signifies my final appearance in the wrestling ring.”
Regarding his future role with the WWE, he stated: “I’ll remain part of the WWE family, gratefully serving as an ambassador. However, you will see me in this suit (points to suit), not sporting the wristbands, the jorts, or the baseball cap. These accessories will be out of sight after my final appearance in December 2025, which is why we’re giving so much attention to this departure tour.”
