A recent event at eWn had headlines blasting after a backstage spar between Britt Baker, MJF, and his significant other, Alicia Atout. Baker, who is now under suspension, seems to have initiated the arguments with her comments about MJF.
As per the narrative, the incident happened during the July 17th episode of AEW Dynamite. Reportedly, Atout overheard derogatory remarks made by Baker about MJF. This incident was the precursor to a series of spats involving MJF, Atout and Baker.
Evidently, Baker not only mistreated Atout with harsh words but also insisted on throwing her out of the women’s dressing room. The ‘situation’ intensified when MJF, feeling agitated, hammered his fist against a wall in the backstage room before his bout with Will Ospreay. Surprisingly, The AEW American Champion even placed himself in the women’s dressing room to take a stance on the issue. Ospreay also took the opportunity to discuss with Baker post these incidents.
Baker, nevertheless, continued to stay visible on TV even during an ongoing HR probe on the matter. Interestingly, at the end of the investigation, Baker was suspended, leaving MJF free of any punitive action.
A recent revelation by Ibou from WrestlePurists notifies that AEW decided against suspending MJF, due to the HR department’s interpretation of his actions in favor of Atout, making them non-punishable.
Sharing his assessment on the incident, Ibou clarified: “All of these things are true. MJF did punch a wall. MJF did 100% go into the women’s locker room. However, he was not in front of Britt Baker, at the time. His act of aggression took place in an empty hallway at a safe distance. This is entirely different than, like, you know, in the women’s locker room punching walls.”
In continuation of the explanation, he added, “Regarding the women’s locker room incident, official details state that it occurred after the whole situation cooled down a bit. Apparently, Will Ospreay was the first to confront Baker, asking why she initiated the conflicts. Baker then unleashed a series of tirades against Alicia Atout, for informing MJF that she was berating him. This prompted MJF to intervene in defense of his fiancee. It is suggested that MJF politely requested entry into the locker room before entering it.”
Ibou reinstated, “The reason for MJF’s non-suspension is due to HR’s comprehensive fact-checking which concluded that he was not in the wrong and was merely supporting his fiancee. This resulted in a no-penalty scenario for him. As for Baker, despite her suspension, she will not be absent from All In. She is expected to wrestle at All In opposite Mercedes (Mone).”
While it’s still uncertain whether AEW President Tony Khan was personally involved in the probe, the majority empathized with Baker amidst this scandal.
