In a recent episode of his podcast, “Six Feet Under”, wrestling legend The Undertaker shared his thoughts on the tremendous effect Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s comeback to WWE had on its business earlier this year.
Here are few notable takeaways from the episode:
Discussing about The Rock, The Undertaker said, “He really has put in a lot of effort… It’s quite interesting because I distinctly remember his premiere at Madison Square Garden as Rocky Maivia, back then I thought, ‘He may not make it.’ Particularly performing at the Garden, which is known for its ruthless audience that can make or break a debut. Sometimes, it’s hard to bounce back.”
He further added, “And there he was, stepping out with his little curly hair back in those days. The audience was asked to cheer him on, but instead, they booed him. I thought, ‘He won’t last long. It’s such a pity because he has a legacy.’ But it turns out, I was wrong. He was always observant, constantly taking notes, asking questions – his work ethics were truly outstanding.”
Speaking about The Rock’s ability to attract older fans, The Undertaker remarked, “He managed to draw attention towards the product at WrestleMania 40; attention that might have been absent for quite some time. He got assigned to the board of directors, it seems like part of their strategy with TKO is to use his influence — he seems to be involved in everything from professional football to other sectors.”
The podcast episode also features an interesting arm wrestling session between Undertaker and “Monster” Michael Todd.
