In a recent conversation with Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, WWE Hall of Famer and NXT executive producer Shawn Michaels shared his thoughts on NXT World Champion Trick Williams and his upcoming journey in the wrestling world.
Here are a few key points from their discussion:
When asked about Trick Williams, Michaels praised, “Trick has an extraordinarily promising future ahead of him. He is a delight to work with each and every day. His receptiveness is commendable. He’s one of the rising stars in the business but maintains a down-to-earth attitude and a commitment to better himself each day. That’s something I truly respect.”
Michaels discussed the similarity in physicality between Williams and Hall, stating, “Trick’s surprisingly large build reminds me of Scott. I told him just last week that his frame was like having to throw a 10-foot ladder. He’s a hefty 245 lbs and comfortably over 6’3”. This comparison to Scott is a novel idea, and it’s worth discussing. What I admired about working with Scott was his willingness to take things head on, much like Trick does. Amidst the action, it’s easy to overlook just how towering he is.”
Talking about Hall’s fighting style, Michaels added, “Many wrestlers adopt the ‘big guy’ persona even if they aren’t as bulky as Scott, but he never did. He never appeared overly large because of his technique. It’s humorous how I never grouped Scott alongside Kevin Nash as a behemoth, due to the innovative style of wrestling they both had. Scott had the potential to wrestle like a big guy, and would have justifiably garnered applause for it, but he refrained. This rebellion made him particularly memorable.”
Regarding the career objectives for Trick Williams, Michaels commented, “Social media is buzzing with talk of Trick already being ready for the main roster. But that’s not Trick’s ambition. He doesn’t aim to become just another name in the roster – he aspires to thrive as a pivotal player on the team. His mature perspective is admirable. It’s a pleasure to work with him, and I look forward to his future moves.”
