In a recent episode of the “Up Close” podcast hosted by Renee Paquette, Britt Baker, the former AEW Women’s World Champion, reflected on her return to AEW. This return was decided just before the AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door event in 2024.
Baker revealed, “The decision for my return happened at the very last moment. Everything fell into place the previous night and there was no time for preparation. Despite the rushed nature of it all, it’s something I wouldn’t change as it allowed me to maintain an element of surprise. I chose to spend that time at home with my family, and kept it a secret from even my closest friends. I was extremely nervous. I feared no one would care about my return because AEW had seemed to move on beyond me. The apprehension of rejection felt worse than potentially being rejected. When I stepped out and heard my music play and the crowd’s reaction, it’s a moment that leaves you speechless. But that reaction is all the motivation you need to get back into the ring, and here we are, back as DMD.”
After a 10-month break, Baker returned to AEW and has quickly found herself in contention for the TBS Championship against dual titleholder, Mercedes Mone.
