Ex-wrestler Rikishi thinks that this year’s men’s Money in the Bank briefcase should have been won by Jey Uso.
In the most recent episode of his podcast “Off the Top,” Rikishi, who is the father of tag team Jey and Jimmy Uso, as well as four others, voiced his disappointment that his son did not bag the MITB briefcase this year.
Here are some standout moments from the podcast:
Rikishi on Jey Uso’s loss: “It bothers me a bit. I’m not advocating for special treatment because of Jey’s family background or anything. Rather, I’m talking about his performance and contributions. Jey has consistently delivered for the company – with consistent numbers and noteworthy merchandise contributions. He shows up, does his work and doesn’t cause trouble. So, I fail to understand why he isn’t given these opportunities, especially seeing the crowd responses when he is in the ring.”
Rikishi continues, “We can all remember when he was cheated out of the Intercontinental Belt by GUNTHER. Now look at where GUNTHER is? And compare it to Jey. It’s the same with Money in the Bank. On the promotional material, whose face do you see? Fact is, Jey deserves these opportunities.”
Rikishi supporting Jey: “So I sent Jey a text after his match: ‘Hey, well done. Keep working hard.’ I went easy on him because I know he’s hurting, and I am too. I mean, what more does Jey have to do to get a real opportunity? Over 17 years, he’s given everything. Don’t you think it’s about time for him to be acknowledged with Intercontinental Championship or another title? Regardless of whether he’s my son or not, the numbers and status speak for themselves. When I go on my social media, what do I see all over WWE Shop? Jey, Jey and more Jey.”
