In a recent dialogue on HOT 97 in the lead-up to the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024 pay-per-view event, AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone shared her thoughts. She addressed criticisms about her safety in the ring, underlined the mutual protection wrestlers extend to each other, and mentioned more related topics.

Have a look at the important takeaways from the interview:

When discussing criticisms about her safety record in the ring, she said, “I found that deeply upsetting. It plunged me into a depression because wrestling has always been my passion and vision, and my aspiration was always to excel in it. To hear speculations that I might be unsafe was very disheartening…It wasn’t the colleagues in the backroom, but the fans who held the belief that ‘You’re not safe.'”

Addressing the safety measures wrestlers take to safeguard each other, she expressed, “It’s frightening sometimes, reflecting the nature of the profession we are in. Injuries are unpredictable – sometimes minor like sprains, other times severe, such as a broken kneecap or even a neck. This venture demands us to risk our lives. Despite the potential dangers, we strive to do all we can to ensure one another’s safety. Unfortunately, sometimes accidents happen.”
