Following his victory at WrestleMania 40, Cody Rhodes paid an emotional tribute to his late father, Dusty Rhodes. While speaking on the “The Pivot” podcast, Cody, who currently holds the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion title, revealed the heartfelt words he whispered to his father post-win.

Cody shared, “At Mania, I had an intimate moment where I had the opportunity to cast my glance upwards. To my surprise, neither Michael Cole nor anyone else seemed to catch my words. Perhaps, it was due to the fleetingness of the moment. I ventured to look heavenward and expressed, ‘Sorry it took me so long.’ I had intended to say a hundred different things, but that’s unerringly how I felt. ‘This entire setup is pretty amazing. Mum is in the ring. The family future is secure. We’re laying foundations for generations, yet I’m truly sorry it took so long.’”

Cody proceeded to reflect, “He was always a believer. It wasn’t the mere fatherly pride of ‘That’s my boy.’ He genuinely felt that I’ve got what it takes. ‘He just has to discover it.’ And I did but later than he probably imagined.”
