In a pro wrestling classic, Shawn Michaels battled Razor Ramon at WrestleMania X. Interestingly, HBK did not anticipate the match becoming as iconic as it did when it occurred.
In an intense showdown to determine the Undisputed Intercontinental Champion, it was Ramon who snagged the much sought-after victory.
On a recent episode of the “Sportsnet” podcast, Michaels whose real name is Michael Shawn Hickenbottom, looked back on his match against Ramon, as well as his previous ladder match against Bret Hart. He remarked:
“When Scott [Hall, Razor Ramon’s real name] and I entered the ring that first time, for what is now a pay-per-view classic, and even Bret [Hart] and I, in an epic first encounter, we never anticipated that these encounters would attain the historic status they have today. Our goal at the time was simple- to put on the best match we possibly could within the confines of a brand new concept.”
“I take immense pride in the fact that those matches have weathered the changing times and still hold their ground as some of the first of their kind… It is undoubtedly an exceptional concept, and as with everything in WWE’s domain, they have amplified it and made it more grandiose.”
Despite being regarded as one of the pioneering talents in ladder match history, Michaels’ 2-4 win/loss record in this particular match format is rather striking. The iconic performer, who has been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame twice, has had a mixed record.
Additionally, at the WWE TLC 2009 pay-per-view event, Michaels took part in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs (TLC) match, where he and Triple H clinched the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships.
