During a recent airing of the podcast “Under The Ring”, former titleholder of AEW International, Orange Cassidy, reminisced about his early exposure to wrestling in Japan. He also shared his ambition to compete in the NJPW Best of Super Juniors tournament. Here are some noteworthy mentions from the podcast:
Regarding his initial acquaintance with Japanese wrestling, Cassidy stated: “My first encounter was probably with the Best of Super Juniors. I don’t remember the precise year, but that event left a profound impact on me. It was like discovering a competition entirely based on my preferred style of wrestling. The techniques they were demonstrating sparked admiration in me, and it is indeed an ambition of mine to participate in the Best of Super Juniors. However, this would have to be with AEW’s consent as it would require a long absence. Being a part of it is something I’ve been yearning for and would absolutely enjoy.”
When asked if Japanese audiences would resonate with his character, Cassidy responded: “It’s something I’m interested in discovering. I’m curious to see how they would react. I’ve received positive feedback from Japanese wrestlers that have come here, which could be a promising sign. But let’s see, it would certainly be intriguing to observe.”
