During a chat on Busted Open Radio following his prosperous livelihood with the company, Konnan disclosed his viewpoints on the collapse of WCW.
He cited Scott Hall and Kevin Nash as key factors in WCW’s ultimate downfall.
“It wasn’t Hulk Hogan, in my opinion. I genuinely believed it was [Scott] Hall and [Kevin] Nash. I once suggested to Eric [Bischoff] that he aligned himself with Hogan, neglecting the other players who were producing innovative concepts. They were the trendsetters. Hogan was the one who remarked, ‘Buddy, I’m facing a backlash. I need to rejuvenate my career.’ Kevin Sullivan and Eric persuaded him [to turn into a villain]. They had to isolate him to prevent him from changing his stance or someone counselling him, whatever the circumstances were.”
“For me, the moment they terminated X-Pac was crucial — I was present, I was their ally. They were upset, sitting in the arena, sporting conventional shirts. Below their shirts, they had WWE tees. They were ready to enter the ring, undo their shirts, revealing WWE logos, and voicing support for X-Pac. When X-Pac was fired by Eric, they withdrew completely — in other words, they stopped contributing ideas, they weren’t punctual, they ceased participating whatsoever, leading to pervasive jealousy and infighting. And the fact that Hogan was always looking out for his own interests also contributed to the downfall.”
