In a recent episode of his podcast, “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy”, the TNA veteran discussed the behind-the-scenes of the legendary Triple Threat Ladder match at WrestleMania 2000. The match included The Hardys, Dudley Boyz, and Edge & Christian.
During the episode, Hardy revealed the backstage expectations for the match. He explained that the officials gave the participants full creative freedom but were concerned about the performers’ safety due to the extreme stunts planned.
He also shared the advice they received from Michael Hayes and Bruce Prichard. The wrestling stars were asked not to rush their performance and take their time to ensure safety because time was not an issue. This, according to Hardy, was unprecedented especially considering it was their WrestleMania debut.
Describing the approach to the groundbreaking match, Hardy noted that it was a collective effort with everyone working together to create memorable moments and a lasting legacy. He reflected on the learning experience of setting up the ladders strategically to make it appear as though they were attempting to win the match, not just doing a move on an opponent.
Through the series of the iconic Triangle Ladder match, TLC One and TLC Two, they improved their psychology, logic, and continuity in the ring, aiming at making more sense in the context of trying to win the match once the opponents were taken out.
