In the recent King of the Ring tournament during WWE’s King & Queen of the Ring pay-per-view event, GUNTHER clinched a victory against Randy Orton. The finals, held last Saturday, witnessed GUNTHER triumph.
Interestingly, even though Orton’s both shoulders didn’t touch the ground, a pinfall win was awarded to GUNTHER as the referee counted the pin. The controversial decision was later reaffirmed by WWE’s Chief Creative Officer, Triple H.
Reports from Fightful suggest that insiders within WWE were hinting that the final sequence of the match was unintentional, indicating a possible mishap.
The victory meant GUNTHER was crowned the new King of the Ring, and consequently became the frontline contender for the World Heavyweight Championship, presently held by Damian Priest.
Following the showdown, GUNTHER is likely to face the victor between Priest and Drew McIntyre, with their match to decide the title holder at the upcoming WWE Clash at the Castle 2024, set to take place in Scotland.
GUNTHER’s quest for the World Heavyweight Championship will continue at the WWE SummerSlam 2024. It will take place on Saturday, August 3rd in the renowned Cleveland Browns Stadium, Cleveland, Ohio.
