The anticipation of Bryan Danielson going head-to-head with Nigel McGuinness in the ring is high, but Danielson has articulated some concerns about the lofty expectations such a match might trigger amongst fans.
While appearing on a recent episode of “The TWC Show” podcast, the subject of a possible in-ring showdown with McGuinness cropped up, given the ongoing speculative tensions threaded through their on-screen interactions. Danielson expressed his apprehensions, saying,
“I have a deep desire to compete with Nigel (McGuinness). What incites fear in me are the anticipations of the fans about what the wrestle might look like… I wonder how many have seen our matches in the past, they were extremely intense. What I fear is fans’ anticipation and their vision of the match. Not suggesting they should compete now, but if this was about Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat aged 55? I daresay, it would still be a thrilling watch.”
McGuinness was compelled to exit the world of wrestling over a decade ago due to health-related complications. As for Danielson, neck issues led to his retirement in 2016. However, he was able to return to the arena just two years later.
Danielson’s forthcoming interplay will see him included in Team AEW, squaring off against The Elite in the Anarchy in the Arena bout at AEW Double or Nothing 2024.
