Lex Luger helped set the tone for what WCW Monday Nitro would go on to become upon his 1995 appearance, according to Eric Bischoff.
The former WWF Superstar debuted during the premiere episode of WCW Monday Nitro with the commentators acting like this was not part of the broadcast.
On a recent edition of his “83 Weeks” podcast, Eric Bischoff discussed how Luger set the tone for the unpredictable nature of Nitro. He said,
“It absolutely set the tone immediately and defined the brand of ‘Nitro’: it’s where you came to find the unexpected.”
Bischoff also discussed the WWF letting Luger’s contract lapse which allowed for his appearance on Nitro. He said,
“In a very unique situation, WWF management didn’t even know he was up for renewal, everybody assumed he was under contract because they weren’t paying attention. Because they didn’t perceive WCW as a threat at the time.”
The following year, Luger would become the first man to dethrone ‘Hollywood’ Hogan as WCW World Champion following the Hulkster’s heel turn as the nWo’s third man.
