According to an early estimate from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the AEW Dynasty pay-per-view buys are lower than those for AEW Revolution 2024 and AEW Worlds End 2023.
The current estimate suggests a decline of 41.1% in TV PPV buys from AEW Revolution 2024 and 28.8% from AEW Worlds End 2023.
It is worth noting that the late buys could potentially contribute to a boost in these numbers.
However, the current estimate is about 100,000 to 108,000 on TV PPV.
While the streaming numbers did not decline as much as the TV PPV numbers, they were still down by 30% from AEW Revolution 2024, resulting in a total (streaming and PPV) of 122,000.
Notably, AEW Dynasty 2024 had to compete with the NBA, NHL Playoffs, and the MLB.
Despite this, AEW Worlds End 2023 performed better and had arguably stronger competition against the NFL.
Of the viewers who purchased AEW Dynasty 2024, 71.5% also bought AEW Revolution 2024. Additionally, only 2.5% of the viewers who purchased WWE WrestleMania 40 (either night) bought AEW Dynasty 2024.
AEW Dynasty Pay-Per-View Buys Decline Compared to Previous Events
In a recent report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it has been revealed that the AEW Dynasty pay-per-view (PPV) buys have experienced a decline when compared to previous AEW events such as AEW Revolution 2024 and AEW Worlds End 2023.
According to early estimates, the TV PPV buys for AEW Dynasty have dropped by 41.1% in comparison to AEW Revolution 2024, and by 28.8% when compared to AEW Worlds End 2023. These figures indicate a significant decrease in viewership for the latest AEW event.
However, it is important to note that these estimates do not take into account late buys, which could potentially contribute to an increase in the overall numbers. Therefore, it is possible that the final figures may differ from the current estimate.
As of now, the early estimate suggests that AEW Dynasty garnered around 100,000 to 108,000 TV PPV buys. While this is a considerable number, it falls short in comparison to the previous events.
In terms of streaming numbers, AEW Dynasty did not experience as steep of a decline as the TV PPV buys. However, there was still a decrease of 30% in streaming viewership when compared to AEW Revolution 2024. This brings the total number of viewers (including both streaming and PPV) for AEW Dynasty to approximately 122,000.
One factor that may have contributed to the decline in viewership is the competition faced by AEW Dynasty. The event had to contend with popular sporting events such as the NBA and NHL Playoffs, as well as the MLB. These competing events may have drawn away potential viewers from AEW Dynasty.
Interestingly, despite facing strong competition from the NFL, AEW Worlds End 2023 performed better in terms of viewership. This suggests that the event had other factors that attracted a larger audience, potentially overshadowing the competition from the NFL.
Analyzing the viewership data further, it is revealed that 71.5% of the viewers who purchased AEW Dynasty 2024 had also bought AEW Revolution 2024. This indicates a loyal fan base that continues to support AEW’s events. On the other hand, only a small percentage (2.5%) of viewers who purchased WWE WrestleMania 40 (either night) also bought AEW Dynasty 2024. This suggests that there is still a significant divide between the fan bases of AEW and WWE.
While the decline in AEW Dynasty’s PPV buys may be concerning, it is important to remember that these are early estimates and the final numbers could differ. Additionally, AEW continues to attract a dedicated fan base, as evidenced by the high percentage of viewers who purchased both AEW Revolution 2024 and AEW Dynasty 2024. With future events and potential improvements in marketing and competition scheduling, AEW has the opportunity to regain and surpass its previous viewership numbers.
