On a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, ECW legend Tommy Dreamer expressed his concern that Mercedes Mone should refrain from appearing on television until she has received medical clearance.
Dreamer’s opinion is based on Mone’s upcoming AEW debut match against TBS Champion Willow Nightingale, which is scheduled to take place at AEW Double Or Nothing 2024.
You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
On lack of follow-up: “You had this big awesome debut and then the follow-up. The follow-up is key.”
On why it didn’t work: “It’s a disconnect, but if I’m not medically cleared but then somebody jumped me from behind and I’m already hurt and then I get hurt again and then I’m back the next week?”
On time off from TV: “If you can’t do physical stuff, then maybe just kind of disappear to come back again?”
ECW legend Tommy Dreamer has expressed his concerns regarding Mercedes Mone’s upcoming appearance on television. Dreamer believes that Mone should refrain from appearing until she has received medical clearance.
Mone is set to make her debut in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) against TBS Champion Willow Nightingale at AEW Double Or Nothing 2024. However, Dreamer believes that it would be best for Mone’s health and the overall storyline if she takes some time off to recover before returning to television.
During an episode of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Dreamer highlighted the importance of a follow-up after a big debut. He stated, “You had this big awesome debut and then the follow-up. The follow-up is key.” Dreamer’s concern stems from the fact that Mone’s character was attacked and injured during her debut, but she is expected to return to action without proper recovery time.
Dreamer further explained his viewpoint by saying, “It’s a disconnect, but if I’m not medically cleared but then somebody jumped me from behind and I’m already hurt and then I get hurt again and then I’m back the next week?” He emphasized the need for consistency in storytelling and questioned the logic of Mone’s character returning to the ring without being fully healed.
The ECW legend suggested that if Mone is unable to perform physically, it would be better for her to take a break from television and make a comeback when she is fully recovered. Dreamer believes that this would not only protect Mone’s well-being but also add more depth to her character and create anticipation for her eventual return.
It remains to be seen how AEW will address these concerns and whether they will alter Mone’s storyline or give her time off to recover. Fans will have to wait and see if Mone’s debut match at AEW Double Or Nothing 2024 will proceed as scheduled or if changes will be made based on Dreamer’s advice.
In the world of professional wrestling, the health and safety of performers should always be a top priority. Dreamer’s concerns for Mercedes Mone’s well-being are a reminder of the physical toll that wrestling can take on its athletes. As fans, we can only hope that AEW and Mone make the best decision for her long-term health and career.
